How can young adults be helped to use their smartphones more consciously?

A diary study conducted as part of this research reveals that smartphones are often used uncontrollably and for longer periods than intended. To address this problem, a strategy was developed to support users through all stages of behavioral change, guiding them toward more mindful smartphone use. The strategy focuses on reflection, motivation, and concrete assistance to promote new habits.

The strategy is implemented by the organization re:connect , which demonstrates its practical application. re:connect provides a digital platform featuring a self-test that recommends interventions based on users' individual usage patterns. These interventions include a reflection journal, a set of cards designed for dopamine balance, an offline community initiative, and an app that uses gamification to develop new routines.
