Our research projects
Our research projects follow the principle of "research through design". The background to this research approach is the idea of using design as a method of gaining knowledge – for example, possible future products are prototypically realised and continuously tested with users at an early stage. The results of these tests, in which qualitative and quantitative methods can be used, then influence the further design process. At the same time, they are made accessible to the professional public as scientific publications.
The Industrial Design Department at the University of Wuppertal is involved in various research contexts. The overarching goal of all projects is to have a positive and sustainable impact on our environment through design - and to understand it better. In the following, we present the different research projects and their individual objectives.
