ZEIT: Relive together, share immersively.

The BMBF-funded ZEIT project is researching how technology can be used to strengthen communication between older and younger people and thus counteract loneliness and dementia processes. A virtual reality system plays a central role here, with the help of which memories (in the form of photos, for example) can be made intuitively navigable.

This is a consortium project. The consortium consists of the Institute ITA of the RWTH Aachen University, OFFIS e.V., Visseiro GmbH and AWO Wohnen und Pflegen Weser-Ems GmbH. Our study program is primarily concerned with involving the users. The goal is to develop an easy-to-use system that enables seniors to experience digital content in a new way together with their relatives. Especially residents of nursing homes experience themselves as lonely. Therefore, the goal is to strengthen the connection between older people and their younger relatives - for example, by reliving past events together in a virtual reality environment.

During the three-year project period, particular attention will be paid to the usability and suitability of the system for everyday use. Ethical, legal and social implications will also be critically discussed with experts throughout the development process. A final evaluation of the final demonstrator will provide information on which aspects should be given special attention in future developments of this kind.
