Digitisation and new business models are empowering customers and citizens to make their own decisions in a growing number of fields. Social media let us participate actively in public debates, configuration apps help to adapt products to our wishes and needs.
However, there is a lack of methods and processes for more complex problems that affect us as groups rather than individuals. Such processes are urgently needed to tackle problems together and find a solution that suits everyone.
The Participation.Kit suggests such a methodology. Its set of cards guides groups through the steps that are necessary to gain clarity about the needs that everyone has regarding participatory decision making. In the next step the group pick methods that fit these needs. They are then compiled into a process that produces various solutions to the initial problem.
The Participation.Kit is made available online under an open source licence. Organisations and associations can use it to tackle their problems self-reliantly. Their experiences can then help improve the Kit continuously.
